What Does It Take To Get A Million Twitter Followers?

Do You Have Over A Million Twitter Followers Yet? What does it take to get a million Twitter followers? (Assuming you’re not cheating with some lame following program) We all know it helps to be very famous like Oprah Winfrey (over 3 million followers) or very popular like Twitter it’s self (2.9 million). You could provide a valuable service like CNN Breaking News (2.8 million) but according to TwitterHolic.com only 219 Twitter accounts currently have over a million followers.

There are probably a million articles about getting a ton of followers and just as many people tripping over themselves trying to get there but the real folks that Tweet work hard to keep the numbers low and the quality high. That’s what I have tried to do with our Twitter account. I’m not a fanatic with it but I am a little selective who I follow and when I have a little free time I start blocking followers that look too spammy.

Ok, with all that said, what does it take to get a million Twitter followers?

My answer is…

Wait for it
.
..

Be very interesting! That’s the only explanation I can see on why a 29 year old guy living with Dad, has no website and doesn’t even have a location on his profile has over a million Twitter followers. His name is Justin Halpern but goes by just ‘Justin‘ on Twitter, follows only one person, never re-tweets, never replies and only Tweets things his Father says. You gotta love it! Check it out, http://twitter.com/shitmydadsays Seriously, It’s hard to stop reading his Tweets.

Well he’s just got one more. You know I think he’s got that many followers because of people like you Dennis. Honestly the guy only has 99 tweets. That’s not many tweets to have accumulated such a huge following. It just has to be from world of mouth advertising. Just goes to show how powerful that is.

Once again, it’s not the quantity of tweets it’s the quality :D

You’re too funny Sire, Dennis is going to get a complex if you keep thinking we’re the same person lol

I’m glad he only has 99 tweets so far because I read every one of them and I had other things to do. What a great idea to share that funny old man.

Shit Brian, I’m sorry mate. It’s just that I see so much of Dennis everywhere I go I’m sure his name is impregnated into my mind. I just hope I don’t say it in my sleep or my wife is going to start wandering about my sexual preference.

I know, I’m a little embarrassed to admit one of the first things I did this morning was to see if he posted his 100th tweet yet. How pathetic is that? lol

It’s true Keith, and it can be a little frustrating when they get there without trying or even knowing what to do with it while we’re working this hard.

Thanks for the follow, I followed back. I actually thought I was following you before but I guess I wasn’t.

I’ve been following Justin for awhile now. I just randomly happened upon him one day and thought ‘I have to follow him”. :) Every now and again I remember he’s there and go check him out.

I’m not trying to get a million followers, but I did finally get more followers than I follow.

My dad never says “shit” but he sure says a lot of shit. The things that go viral never fail to amaze me. Course there was the holahoop and pet rock. But what I really like paying attention to is words since I use them a lot. I’m in that over 50 gang and I about fell out when I heard cool and now I’m saying it again. Then I heard groovy and right on but I never did say those two. On the other end of the spectrum my wife asked me what my “ish” was – that’s now the word for issue.
Maybe someone should start a twitter account whose user name is whatyourish. Opps – just did it. @whatsyourish
