Fine Example Of Viral YouTube Marketing

In The Spotlight

Anyone that has spent more than an hour on YouTube knows how cool many of the videos are. They also know how lame most of them are. The great ones go viral and that’s exactly what HornBlasters.com has achieved.

I found a pretty funny YouTube video the other day through a tweet by John Sullivan @jsinkeywest. It’s Train Horns Scare Daytona Florida! [below] by Matt Landon Heller of HornBlasters.com Matt has many YouTube videos, several with around half a million views. The video below alone has over 440,000 views, 860 ratings (4 1/2 stars) and 853 comments. Can it get more viral than that? Driving traffic to their site to sell product – that’s what I’m talking about! I love this stuff. My hat’s off to YouTube Viral Marketing at it’s best and HornBlasters.com. I am now a big fan.

Great video! Twitter and Youtube are in my top 5 five most visited sites and twitter is so useful for finding great new YT vids and for sharing new vids that I’ve found. Its a great site!

  2. Job Information says:

Brian, that was a funny vid, I can see why it would go viral!

The real challenge is getting one to go viral for your niche…. I am working on getting some video logs (VLogs) on my site, but have been traveling for the holidays, so maybe in the next couple of weeks.

  3. Extreme Traffic says:

Hey thats pretty cool and creative way to build traffic. I’ve been wanting to find ways to make money via Youtube for years. This gives me hope. Cheers.

  4. Walter says:

Very funny video, the unsuspecting victims are caught unaware. It’s like a powerful sound wave that hit them. :-)

  5. Mark@Pittsburgh moving companies says:

Lol it’s funny to see people jump up like that but also it may actually be illegal to have such a loud horn. I wonder if there are laws limiting the decibel level of car horns… But in any case, you’re right it’s a great example of viral marketing and I bet it did lead to a decent amount of sales for their product.

  6. John Dilbeck says:

    Good afternoon, Brian.

I’m going to take a different approach to my view on this video.

It may be effective in getting viewers and maybe even selling their product, but I would never buy from them, even if I were looking for what they sell.

This video shows that they are obnoxious, cause public disruptions, and enjoy the negative effects they inflict on innocent bystanders.

Horns, especially air horns, are public safety devices that are supposed to be used for warning someone of an imminent danger. That’s why so many people jump when they hear it. I’d jump, too.

I wouldn’t care if millions of people watched this video. I don’t think it’s funny nor a good way to approach marketing.

I know I disagree with most people on this, and that’s okay with me.

I would love to have a marketing video go viral, but I would never use this approach.

I just see it as slightly different from making a video of ordering something at a drive-through window and then tossing it in the employee’s face, just to get a reaction.

    It’s despicable.

I don’t mean to rain on your parade, but I do have strong feelings about this.

    All the best,

    JD

  7. Brian D. Hawkins says:

I can respect your opinion John. Strong feelings show passion and that’s a good thing.

I know you understand that the only market for the product is the very people that enjoy the video. Those in public safety would have no need for the aftermarket product.

I know you already know that and it’s cool you don’t like the video. I appreciate you coming on a saying so. It’s nice to hear both sides of an issue.

  8. Just finished a post and added your logo to the end of the post.
I felt bad in a way laughing at that video but I was cracking up so bad I had tears in my eyes :) Humans are SICK LOL :)
    Hope all is well

  9. YourNetBiz says:

Going viral is amazing and some are just too funny. Anyone seen the new viral video with that squirrel just giving a mad look.

It’s silly but stupidly funny. Weird but whenever I see it I laugh. I’ll see if I can find the video and post it here.

Thanks for this blog post. This video will give a few heart attacks…but so funny…not fair doing it to the animals though :o (

  10. Brian D. Hawkins says:

I agree YourNetBiz, no scarring little animals. I haven’t seen the squirrel video. Send it to me if you run across it again.

  11. Sire says:

That was funny Brian, he must have some horn.

Reminds me of an American comedian that makes noises with his mouth and a mike and he had it set up to his car and used his talents to really freak people out.

  12. Brian D. Hawkins says:

I know who you are talking about Sire. I can’t remember that comedian’s name but he was on TV a couple years ago.

  13. Sire says:

Actually Dennis, I think the guy was called Wes Harrison. He was bloody unbelievable. I had a tape, yes I’m that old, somewhere. I must see if I can dig it up just to be sure.

  14. That was funny! It brings me back to the mid eighties. My brother had a Nova and installed an air horn in it, and we drove around doing the same thing.
There was a lever on the dash you simply pulled.

    I love Christmas TOO!.

  15. Elvie says:

I love funny videos. Many people get scared and irritated to the sounds of the horn. Some are saying bad words. The funny thing is that the dog run so fast.thanks for sharing this more power to your site!!!
    God bless ;-)
