I love extreme advertising and it’s my duty to point out the good ones every now and then so I invite you to watch this short 31 second commercial by Reebok. I actually watched this on TV before I found it on YouTube so I know it’s getting air time.

Before you watch the commercial let me point something out. In the first 24 seconds (the part with the model) you actually only see the product (EasyTone sneakers) for about one second. Reebok knows what product to focus on and it’s not the sneakers. It’s not even the legs.

Having only a man’s perspective, if even just one man’s, I wonder what woman think of the ad. Here’s what my friend Sheryl Loch had to say about it, “I saw that commercial last night & wondered if they could help me. Do you think I could sleep in those shoes & wake with a firm butt?” That just goes to show you, men and woman sometimes think along the same lines lol

I don’t know how effective Reebok’s EasyTone shoe commercials are but I like them. They will no doubt offend a few people but that’s ok as long as the message makes it’s mark. What is the message? That’s easy, “Better legs and a better butt with every step“. Wasn’t you paying attention

Locals know the huge artifact from the 1964 New York World’s Fair as symbol of Detroit’s once booming automotive industry. The tire can be seen when driving to Detroit from Detroit Metro Airport.

Like advertising in disguise, few would consider it an 80-foot advertisement for Uniroyal. If it was decided that every roadside billboard was to be removed for a better image most would agree without any thought. If someone decided to remove the big tire there would no doubt be protesting throughout Michigan and beyond.

This 86-foot giant tire, four times that of a standard billboard, has withstood the test of time and shows with some creativity extreme adverting can be much more than effective and excepted – it can become a landmark.

I’m not ready to give the details right now but I’m very excited about it. We are looking for sponsors – could YOU be one? I hope so. Contact me as soon as possible so we can work out the details. Leave a comment or use the form below. Every sponsor’s site will be promoted heavily.

I may need to hire/outsource someone to find sponsors for this contest. Are you an established and successfully contest coordinator? By that, I mean can you quickly secure great sponsors for us ? Send me your details and price.

“I’m far too excited to keep this part a secret. One of the grand prizes the winner will receive is the complete site, blog and domain of eZinePress.com. Now That’s BIG!“

UPDATE: I have had several people answer with the attached form. We haven’t started promoting the contest yet so my regular visitors can get a jump on things if you are reading this. I debated with myself about making the details public too early but I know the comments to follow will be helpful. Time is speeding by far too fast. I still need to work out a few details.

I’m working on a unique contest where everyone that participates will benefit. In the spirit of the Extreme part of our Ezine I would like to go with an Extreme Marketing theme. Contest participants will compete by putting their extreme ideas to action. Participants will promote their own site using unique and effective methods that would be considered on the extreme side.

Here are a few key points that I feel are important and need to be worked out:

The contest and sponsors must be promoted by every contestant.

Each contestant must post a comment on the main contest page (not created yet).

There needs to be a cap or limit on the project budget so everyone can fairly participate.

Rather that giving points I think it would be nice to have a Judging Panel to determine the winner/winners.

Sponsors will be able to compete. Judges will not be able to compete.

I’m a big fan of what is commonly known as ‘Guerrilla Marketing‘ but it’s important that no one break any laws or deface anyone’s property.

As you can see the basics are established. A few details I’m working on are determining a dollar figure for the cap. Another option would be to have the judges give more weight to those that spend less on their promotions. I don’t want someone throwing a bunch of money at their entry and win just by out-spending everyone. I need to workout a time frame. Long enough to give everyone a chance to win but not so long everyone begins to loose interest. I need to work out the contest terms to cover the basics and keep everyone fair and safe.

Any comments and/or ideas would be appreciated. Any ideas or examples of extreme marketing would be helpful as well. And of course we’re still looking for sponsors. I’m very excited about this contest and I think it’s going to be big. The best part of this contest is that everyone wins because everyone is promoting their own site. Please comment below and use the form only if you want to sponsor the contest and don’t want that public yet.

I just purchased a paperback copy of Jay Conrad Levinson’s 4th edition of Guerrilla Marketing and I can’t wait to read it.

Guerrilla Marketing is simply low-cost marketing using untraditional methods. Some of today’s examples of Guerrilla Marketing has re-defined the term ‘low-cost‘ effectively putting some very cool marketing far out of reach for most online marketers.

Guerrilla Marketing can range from a simple ad/statement written in chalk on the sidewalk or sign spinning to the expensive campaigns like Beamvertising and T-shirt TV. Expense aside, I prefer unconventional marketing a little on the wild side. To me, this type of cutting edge extreme marketing puts print ads and TV commercials to shame as far as interest and imagination is concerned. Campaign effectiveness may be another matter but it can sure look fun.
