One Way Back Links From eBay

Here’s a very quick and simple tip to getting quality link backs from one of the biggest sites on the planet – eBay! Best of all it’s free and all you need is an eBay account to create the links.

Everyone knows that as an eBay member you get a profile page. Your profile is a nice way to increase your eBay credibility but it doesn’t get anyone to your other sites and doesn’t allow link backs. The same with your own eBay Blog.

Here’s where the link juice is…

Your eBay About Me page. You can basically build your own About Me page using HTML complete with clickable links without violating any eBay terms. Be sure you read eBay’s About Me Guidelines. There are certain links you can not have but you may be surprised at just how relaxed eBay is with their terms.

Thanks for the excellent tip. I also noticed that the links created are do-follow making them very SEO friendly.

  2. Brian says:

Hi Marc, that’s right, eBay doesn’t add the no-follow tag to those links. I’ve have links on my About Me page for two years now.

  3. Stephan Miller says:

Looks like I will have to go update my eBay About Me page and start a blog. It would be nice having links from one of the top sites on the net.

  4. Brian says:

Hi Stephan, I’m glad I thought of updating my eBay About Me page before I posted this article. Wow, was it out-dated. I don’t think I had touched it in two years. The links were there but so were a few dead links.

  5. Biho says:

I have never been joining eBay, looks like I am going to sell digital products through eBay. Thanks for your info about the one way backlink from eBay, I must get it because google loves it too.

  6. Brian says:

Hi Biho, digital products can be a great product to offer. I’m glad to help and good luck with eBay. Since you are starting out with eBay I’ll offer a recommendation. It’s Jim Cockrum’s Creative eBay Selling Newsletter. I don’t know him personally but I’m a subscriber and I’ve learned a lot from him, including the About Me page. I did notice that in his newsletter today he said, “Digitally delivered ebooks are dead (banned) on eBay”. Sounds like that might effect you so be sure to check it out.

Hi Brian! Thanks for this great tip. Never quite thought of my ebay AboutMe page in this way. Going to update it now.

    Hi Brenda,
Your picture at the bottom of your site looks very familiar. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    Hi Brian,

This is something new I’ve learned so thanks a lot for sharing it. I’m off to do this and possibly blog it as well. Thanks again.

    Hi!
    Thanks for your post!
However I noticed that there is a chance to have a clickable link on your ebay blog. Here is an example http://blogs.ebay.com/romeroru
How did this guy do it?

  11. Brian says:

Nice find Alex. I just tried it on
    my eBay Blog
and it worked great. I don’t know their policy but it did allow me to insert a link. It doesn’t look like the no-follow tag is being used either so that’s a nice link in my book.

To create the link I just had to add a post to the blog and use the ‘view source’ mode. Then I had to add the link code because it won’t hot link without it.

    Nice Job Alex :)

    Hello, Brian!
I was playing with this idea for a while, but only when I started researching and found your post I really got to it. I have a silly question, though a little blackhattish – if you list a new bid and place a link inside, would you get another backlink for the cost of listing? say I offer a book and place my keywords in the description, then “accidentally” include a link from the seller – is that okay with ebay?

  13. Brian D. Hawkins says:

Wow, you scared me for a second Jason. I just checked and eBay still offers the HTML option. Go to your About Me page, scroll down to the bottom left and click ‘Create or edit my About Me page’. Then check the ‘Enter your own HTML code’ option.

  14. Brian D. Hawkins says:

I’m sorry Gabriel, I somehow completely missed your comment. I didn’t mean to be rude. I guess it’s a little late but I wouldn’t push the envelope when it comes to eBay terms. Be careful not to do anything even slightly black hat. How did it go anyway?

  15. Greg says:

Ebay will be shutting down thier blogging platform at the end of Oct / 09. That sux cause i just found out about it.

  16. I didn’t know that Greg. That does suck.

  17. Peter_K says:

It’s a shame they are shutting down their eBay Blogs section. It was a great way to create anchored text backlinks BUT you had to be very clever about it. If you abuse it your eBay account can get suspended. But like their ‘About Me’ pages they seem pretty lax with it.

Do eBay allow external links when you write a ‘Guide’?

  18. Paul Anderson says:

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for the great advice. Sad news about the blog as I have only just come across this as a way to build my backlinks. So much to learn…so much to do! ;-)

    Good Luck and Kind Regards,
    Paul
