Extreme Advertising By Reebok – Better Legs And A Better Butt With Every Step

image - Reebok EasyTone SneakersI love extreme advertising and it’s my duty to point out the good ones every now and then so I invite you to watch this short 31 second commercial by Reebok. I actually watched this on TV before I found it on YouTube so I know it’s getting air time.

Before you watch the commercial let me point something out. In the first 24 seconds (the part with the model) you actually only see the product (EasyTone sneakers) for about one second. Reebok knows what product to focus on and it’s not the sneakers. It’s not even the legs.

Having only a man’s perspective, if even just one man’s, I wonder what woman think of the ad. Here’s what my friend Sheryl Loch had to say about it, “I saw that commercial last night & wondered if they could help me. Do you think I could sleep in those shoes & wake with a firm butt?” That just goes to show you, men and woman sometimes think along the same lines lol

I don’t know how effective Reebok’s EasyTone shoe commercials are but I like them. They will no doubt offend a few people but that’s ok as long as the message makes it’s mark. What is the message? That’s easy, “Better legs and a better butt with every step“. Wasn’t you paying attention ;)

I and the cameraman vibrate in the same frequency. :)

I think the sequence and exposure time of the frames are calculated to get the message across even if the viewer (the girls) had the ‘mute’ on in their tv sets. A 1-second shot on the shoe and then say, 6 seconds on the legs and butt. You can almost visualize a watching woman thinking: “God, how did she get those hot legs and butt? Ah, the shoe!”

  2. Brian D. Hawkins says:

It’s true James, Reebok knows their stuff.

If you think about it, just the fact someone thought about a new angle for shoes is pretty impressive. There’s only so much shoes can do and someone was thinking way out of the box with this idea.

  3. James Moralde says:

Exactly. Hmmmnnn… I think I’m gonna watch these commercials closer next time. There are far more things imprinted on the viewers mind than what is seen and heard.

  4. Chad Ochocinco Gold Grill says:

So…. If I buy a pair of Reeboks, do I get one of those gold grills with it? LOL

  5. Reebok Commercials says:

Haven’t seen that Chad Ochocinco commercial yet here in India but I think the video is looking really hot with that girl ;)

  6. New England Patriots says:

In advertising, capturing consumers’ attention is imperative. This area is really the main focus of research. So, I think its very succesfull work…

  7. Chad Ochocinco NFL Superbowl says:

I love this commercial series they are doing, super hot thats for sure and it def gets attention. Attention that Reebok desperately needs.

  8. Brian D. Hawkins says:

Well mission accomplished then Typhoon, it left an impression on me.

  9. Brian D. Hawkins says:

Hi Dennis, it definitely qualifies as a ‘visual’ experience.

  10. Brian D. Hawkins says:

I agree Burun, successful work indeed.

  11. Brian D. Hawkins says:

Super hot for sure John but not as hot as some of the pictures on ExtremeJohn.com.

  12. Burun Estetigi says:

The commercial is targeting both women and men. That’s considerable detail..

  13. Sheryl Loch says:

I missed the part where they said I had to take steps…can’t they make shoes that just wearing them gives you a better butt?

Maybe I should send Brad over to see this. He might be willing to go buy me some of these shoes. I mean he is the one that sees my butt…
My theory is that it is behind me & I can’t see it so it’s fine.

Oh well, if he doesn’t go get me some of these no big deal. I only put shoes on about 1 time a year so, doubt they would do me much good.

  14. Chad Ochocinco Reebok Commercials says:

This is the best shoe commercial I have seen all year. And yes the only reason I liked it was because of the firm buttocks by the Reebok model.

  15. Chad Ochocinco Gold Reebok Shoes says:

i liked the butt than the shoes by reebok :)

  16. Ardit Veliu says:

The family and me were watching tv when this commercial came on and got all sorts of reactions. I found it hilarious, my dad called America “sick,” and my mom wanted a pair.

Personally if I were to create an ad for a business or site of mine it would look very very similar.

  17. Kikolani is a BITCH says:

Sketchers has a similar shoe designed to do the same thing for your physically as this shoe does. Reebok definitely came up with a more eye-catching campaign, although the Sketchers ad has more relevant information for those who are serious about working out and want to know the benefits of wearing this shoe.

  18. Brian D. Hawkins says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if you had to walk less miles on the Las Vegas strip for a better butt Sheryl ;)

  19. Sire says:

Damn fine commercial and in perfectly good taste, how could anyone find it objectionable. Shit if I needed a tighter butt I would buy a pair :D

  20. Brian D. Hawkins says:

Man, I love that ass. How did you know I was a tit’n'ass man :D .
lol, I’m sure you would look great in those shoes Sire. One thing for sure, the video provided the perfect post picture/thumbnail for me. image - sexy butt

  21. Get Fit for Christmas -- Extreme Fitness Information says:

I’m one of the few that is offended. Not by the commercial itself, it’s quite visually pleasing, just at the whole “Shoes that will give you a better butt and legs” hype. Any pair of comfortable shoes that will get you off your a$$ and moving it(your a$$) will improve the muscle tone. I won’t rant about that subject though. Just curious if Reebok started that campaign close to the Christmas shopping season. How many husbands would be thinking “I’ve get to get me, I mean my wife, some.”
Great marketing on Reebok’s part. I can’t wait to see how Nike tops it.

  22. Jim@Top List says:

Ad like this work…no doubt! Like you, I approach it from the guys perspective. However, many girls, even if they claim otherwise, will allow this commericial to influence them. It simply highlights the beauty of woman, which both men and women want :)

  23. Sheryl Loch says:

    Ok I’ve had it!
Look at all the comments just because you have some ladies butt on your page. I think it’s unfair!
I’m an ass everyday & don’t get this kind of attention. ;-)

I did go buy….not the shoes. The shoes would never get worn so, I see no point in spending the money on them.

What I bought was an elliptical machine. I am going to prove that flip flops can give you just as nice of a butt as those ugly shoes!

See Reebok failed in part of this ad.
I had saw the ad before & thought “dang, I want a firm butt”. What I never knew was what kind of shoes they were selling to get that butt.

Without looking again…what is the make of the shoes? Reebok what?
How can I go into a store & tell them I am looking for ‘Reebok firm butt when you walk shoes’?

Marketing boys, they over did the idea of the nice butt & forget to implant the name of the shoe with the butt.

  24. Extreme Fitness says:

Reebok should have probably put their logo on her shorts. It may have gotten them more recognition. Ha ha, just kidding, no one cares about the shoes.

  25. Brian D. Hawkins says:

Sounds like you’re a little offended yet impressed Aaron. I didn’t look into it closely but I guess they did some kind of study or something. Like you said, getting of the couch will help more that the shoes you wear. Like you, I like the marketing.

  26. Brian D. Hawkins says:

I posted about that video before Christmas Sheryl. First I bought an exercise treadmill. It took about a week to learn my knees couldn’t take it so I went with an Elliptical Machine too. I’m actually using it a few times a week :)

  27. Brian D. Hawkins says:

image - logo shortsActually Aaron, I think that’s a great idea. That’s what I would have done.

  28. Sheryl Loch says:

I have 1 really bum knee that I have babied for years so, I knew I would need to be careful.

I’m going to write an article about why I chose what I did & how I’m using it.

I thought about doing a photo before & then one later to compare but, I was afraid my site would be banned for gooie grossness.

  29. Sheryl Loch says:

Yeah, come out here & make me! I ain’t afraid of no Aussie or Michigonian.

Hell, I’ll be able to out run ya both.

Nothin can save you from my Jackie Chan moves kickin your butts.

Talkin Smack is a free service I provide.

  30. Orkut says:

nice and funny commercial… I think most of us would watch the video again and again.. and forget about the main theme.. the shoes or Reebok

  31. Ann Julie says:

These advertising techniques are really below the belt for multinational companies who pride themselves on having the world’s best creative teams.

This sort of creativity doesnot sell shoes. If product is worth buying, then people will surely buy it even if the advertisement includes hunky dudes.

  32. Brian D. Hawkins says:

Hi Ann, I’m not sure how it’s below the belt but you could be right about selling shoes. Like Aaron was getting at, you could actually watch a video like that and not even know the brand afterward.

  33. Reebok Chad Ochocinco New England Patriots Receiver Gold Teeth says:

    hey Brian,
I’m not going to rush out and buy any Reebok shoes right now, butt I am going to watch that video again. :) Steve

  34. David says:

There could have been a more dignified way of advertising. I guess there could have been a better dignified approach to the concept of advertising shoes.

  35. Mule Sneakers says:

I think this commercial awesome. But where can the marketing team at reebok go from here.

  36. tüp bebek says:

a very successful site. Also very revealing article. Thanks to the contributors.

  37. Enrique Russek says:

never thought of that!i would put dog on treadmill not on than start it slowly and hold him on a leesh and hold it and stand on the side of the treadmill and run in place…actully walk to get it used to bing on a treadmill…hope this works…lol
