I have Brad, very good points. I've also discovered the most important factor when commenting is building relationships and helping each other. As soon as I see a couple quality comments from the same person I make it a point to go to their blog, if there is one, and return the favor, as you have noticed.

This is more important to me than Do-Follow links, CommentLuv, KeyWordLuv or the the TopCommentator Widget - all of which we use here. It's the 'You Comment - We Follow' part that counts when building traffic because we all tend to follow one another from blog to blog.

I use FriendFeed, Twitter, BackType and others to see where friends are commenting. That's how I find many new sites to visit. I think I just found a future post ;)

Brian,

Good points. I have discovered two types of promoting your website by commenting.

#1 Great comments on popular blogs help the most with credibility and generating traffic. Your name and comments just get seen by so many more sets of eyes.

#2 Great comments on blogs that are peer to you (in terms of PR or Alexa ranking) will generate the most backlinks and comments. If you help out a peer's blog by commenting on their blog, they will usually do the same on yours. If you are in their top commenters list they will usually want to be in your's too. This is also where you are likely to develop relationships that will result in posts about you on their blog.

Have you found this to be true?

Same here Harsh, I use the same methods other than facebook. I have a facebook account but rarely log on. It looks like what you are doing works very well. A Google PageRank of 04/10 and an Alexa of just over twenty thousand.

If I may say so there doesn't seem to be much activity as far as comments which I'm confused by with the traffic needed for that Alexa rank. I'm going to get on there and do my part and comment on a few :)

Probably Commenting is the tool which I use the most to enhance my blog SEO. And along with it, google new rule when they have changed the theory about nofollow. Commenting on other blog which get indexed very fast is a great idea to index your blog quickly...
Other promotion tool which I use is social bookmarking websites , twitter and facebook. Though Twitter and facebook are usually for traffic, but has no or very little use to SEO.

The same here Peter. In fact, I have to say that changing to a blog format has improved our relationship with many of our subscribers. The invisible names on a list turned into sites I visit, blogs to comment on and I've even found a couple of great deals.
